The greatest two minutes in sports was preceded by Derby celebrations all over Louisville, Kentucky and Atlanta, Georgia. A Southern night of grace, glamour and charm are all the experiences you will surely have the night before the race.
The Unbridled Eve Gala hosted its annual party at the Galt House Hotel with full Red Carpet arrivals and performances that included Grammy winners Robin Thicke and Wynona Judd, Author Nora Roberts, Actor Dean Norris (Breaking Bad), Christiaan Prince (2016 Ms. Kentucky Teen USA) and Mark Sanchez (Denver Broncos).
The event this year will support Blessings in a Backpack. This organization is feeding more than 72,000 students in 700 schools across 44 states.
Another special Gala was the 100 Black Men of Louisville to support their 100 mentoring program. They help students who are in pursuit of their academic goals. Their headliner was the legendary music Producer and multiple Grammy winner Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds.
In Atlanta, multiple Alpha Fraternity chapters hosted the Alpha Derby Day Party at the City Club of Buckhead. This was their second fundraiser and celebration in the spirit of big hats, fancy dresses and bow ties. Proceeds from their event will support education foundations and community efforts that uplift and inspire youth to chase their dreams.
The Mint Juleps were flowing, the call to post sounded and bets were made. Right up to the end, the race favorite was Nyquist, who is the fourth consecutive favorite, undefeated Colt.
Winning the most coveted prize in American racing, Nyquist was the perfect end to The 142nd Kentucky Derby and the annual Gala celebrations.
